Wind, Steam and Dr Diesel!

 A half-day workshop covering Science and Local History for KS 2. 
Learn about forces and materials by exploring the history of the Fens, with re-enactors in costume and exciting science challenges. Finish with seeing one of the diesel engines in operation!
  • Meet Cornelius Vermuyden and hear about the adventurers and their wind pumps.
  • Science challenge: using a wind tunnel, students will design and test a sail for a wind generator.
  • Meet James Watt and discover why steam replaced wind for draining the Fens.
  • Meet Dr Rudolph Diesel and learn about his remarkable invention.
  • What will happen to the Fens as the climate changes?
